Best Clear Aligners in Australia: Top Options Compared

When they first hit the orthodontic scene, clear aligners were revolutionary. Straighter teeth, without a single bracket or wire? Patients loved it—and many still do. But today, there are a lot more clear aligner brands to choose from. The sheer number of options might seem overwhelming, but even a little research can go a long way in picking the best one for you.

Fortunately, we’ve done way more than a little research, and we’ve distilled it into this list of top clear aligners in Australia. By the end, you should have a better sense of which might be the right choice for your smile.

Why Clear Aligners?

We’ve got nothing against braces. They’re a versatile treatment, and remain one of the most effective teeth-straightening options. They’ve helped millions of people transform their smiles. But so have clear aligners—and we think it’s tough to beat their combination of power, convenience, and invisibility.

Clear aligner treatment uses a series of custom-designed plastic trays to move your teeth bit by bit. You’ll wear each tray for ten days, for 20–22 hours per day, and over several months, they shift your teeth to their new positions. Not only is it much less intrusive and visible than traditional metal braces, but it won’t restrict what you eat either, since aligners are removable. Even better: Some clear aligner brands can cost significantly less than traditional braces treatment.

That said, each brand has its own set of advantages and drawbacks, and the best choice for you depends on your particular misalignment, circumstances, and budget. We’ve outlined them all below, so you can compare and contrast.

Top Clear Aligner Brands in Australia

Even if you’re sold on clear aligners, there’s still practically a sea of brands to choose from. So we’ve outlined a few of the most well-known, along with their biggest pros and cons.

Linea

Linea is an Australian-founded, dentist-directed clear aligner provider that combines hands-on care from a partner dentist with remote monitoring through the Linea app. Treatment starts with an in-person clinical assessment, where the dentist examines your teeth and takes X-rays, 3D scans and intraoral photographs.

Your plan is then prepared by Linea's orthodontic planning team and prescribed by the dentist, who fits your aligners and places any attachments or IPR your plan calls for. The dentist stays involved throughout, with check-ups at set stages until treatment is complete. Between appointments, you upload photos to the app each month so Linea's clinical team can check your progress and bring in the dentist if needed.

Linea focuses on mild-to-moderate cases. Prices are fixed: $2,698 for mild cases, $3,898 for moderate cases, and $4,998 for more involved cases. Patients may be able to claim part of the cost through their private health insurance extras cover, depending on their policy and level of cover.

Best For Someone Who:

  • Wants in-person treatment with elements of remote care.
  • Is conscious of their budget and wants a fixed price that includes retainers, whitening and refinements.
  • May want to enroll in a payment plan for their treatment.
  • Appreciates the ability to use attachments and IPR in treatment.
  • Wants a company based in Australia.
  • Prefers a company that’s highly focused on the patient experience and has many positive patient reviews.

Consider Before Buying:

  • Linea focuses on mild-to-moderate cases and isn’t suitable for severe dental or jaw misalignments.
  • Linea is growing, but they aren’t as widespread as larger companies like Invisalign, so it might be more difficult to find a provider nearby.

Invisalign

If you’re researching clear aligners, you’ve probably already heard of Invisalign. For decades, they’ve been the largest brand in the game, and they still produce quality aligners. They have providers around the world and cutting-edge research behind their treatments. Invisalign is designed to treat a broad range of cases, including complex ones.

Best For Someone Who:

  • Wants a long-established brand with a broad treatment range.
  • Has a complex misalignment or mild jaw issue that requires additional attachments or aligner modifications.
  • Wants more choices in local providers, since Invisalign has more than most other options.
  • Is intrigued by Invisalign’s multi-layer SmartTrack material.

Consider Before Buying:

  • Invisalign pricing varies greatly by provider and can be quite expensive. Invisalign Australia has itself put forward prices of $4,500 to $9,500.1 Be sure to get a full quote, and consider shopping around if you’re price sensitive.
  • Ask how many in-person visits will be required and how often you’ll need to come in, if frequent visits are a concern.

Spark

Spark’s manufacturer, Ormco, has been developing orthodontics products for over 60 years and serves orthodontists in more than 130 countries. Spark started in Australia and New Zealand, and they’ve since expanded to the U.S. and other countries. They say their biggest advantage is their two different TruGEN materials, and they can also incorporate buttons, elastics, and other attachments to handle complex misalignments.

Best for Someone Who:

  • Prefers a brand that’s backed by a large company with a long track record of manufacturing orthodontic supplies.
  • Wants a brand with solid customer reviews on aligner clarity and comfort.
  • Are interested in Spark’s flexible TruGEN and more rigid TruGEN XR materials, which dentists can choose between for various movements.
  • Prefer a company that started in Australia.

Consider Before Buying:

  • Spark’s prices are often higher than Linea—closer to Invisalign or 3M Clarity.
  • Spark doesn’t provide an option for virtual check-ins, so you’ll likely need to make regular appointments with your orthodontist.

3M Clarity Aligners

That’s right. The company who created Post-Its and Scotch tape has a clear aligner brand. As a leading materials company, they’ve developed two custom plastics (each with different advantages) that the orthodontist can switch between depending on your needs. They also have proprietary attachments that they say are customized for each patient’s teeth. Combined, they give your orthodontist plenty of room to customize your treatment.

Best for Someone Who:

  • Likes the idea of the Flex and Force plastics, which let orthodontists choose the best one for each stage of treatment.
  • Want an orthodontist rather than a dentist, since 3M appears to focus on working with orthodontists. Some 3M Clarity providers even say the company works solely with orthodontists.
  • Appreciate the option to combine clear aligner therapy with 3M Clarity Braces treatment (e.g. braces on top, aligners on bottom) to treat a wider range of misalignments.
  • Want aligners with attachments that are custom-made for your specific teeth.

Consider Before Buying:

  • 3M Clarity can be more expensive than other brands, often on par with Invisalign or braces.
  • Like Linea, 3M Clarity might be slightly harder to find than some competitors.

What About Fully Remote Clear Aligners Like SmileDirectClub?

There’s no denying it: The prospect of completing your entire treatment from home might be enticing for some. After all, these treatments are cheaper and require less of a time commitment. However, we don’t think they’re the best or safest option out there.

Why? Because in-person care is crucial for ensuring safety and effectiveness, even if it’s a single office visit. Even minor dental issues, like cavities or gingivitis, can affect how your teeth move. So detecting these conditions early in the process allows the dentist to correct them before treatment, preventing further problems down the road.

Most fully at-home aligner treatments don’t require initial dental exams or X-rays. Instead, they evaluate your teeth using dental impressions you make at home. The problem here is two-fold. First, clear aligners are all about precision, and it’s tough to get precise dental molds if you’ve never made them before (even dentists need extensive training to create impressions). Second, some skeletal issues that might make clear aligners unsafe can hide under the surface, only visible with X-rays.

Beyond these diagnostic limitations, at-home aligners can't incorporate important clinical tools that dentists use to improve treatment effectiveness. Attachments—small tooth-colored shapes affixed to teeth—help aligners grip better and create more precise movements. Similarly, interproximal reduction (IPR), which involves carefully removing tiny amounts of enamel between teeth, creates space for effective tooth movement. Without these tools, at-home aligners are limited to treating only mild cosmetic cases, typically focusing just on the front teeth.

These significant limitations can lead to subpar results and even damage that can require additional dental work. So even though their sticker prices might be attractive, these brands might end up costing you more in the long run.

How Should I Decide?

Your smile is one of a kind, so the best choice for you is going to be different than the best one for your friends, neighbors, or coworkers. That’s why picking a clear aligner treatment is an incredibly personal decision, based on your misalignments, budget, and desires.

During your initial consultation, the dentist will let you know if clear aligners will work for your misalignment. They might even recommend a particular brand, or they might leave it up to you. While we think all the companies on this list administer reliable treatments, if you want a blend of versatility, effectiveness, and convenience, without a huge price tag, hybrid treatment like Linea’s is tough to beat.

That said, it all depends on your preferences, so consult your dentist, research your options, assess your priorities, and before you know it, you’ll be on the road to a new, confident smile.
