Just like most other products, Invisalign’s price can vary based on where you get it. So you could go to three different dentists and get three different quotes. That’s because dental and orthodontic prices are the sum of several variables, including your location. We researched the average prices across Australian metropolitan areas, and although the range of prices we found is pretty consistent, there are ways you can save no matter where you live.
So whether you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth, here’s what we discovered about Invisalign prices near you.
While Invisalign prices remain relatively consistent across Australia's major cities, each market has its own characteristics that can affect your final cost.
Sydney is one of the most (if not the most) expensive cities in Australia. One site estimates that Sydney’s cost of living is around 13% higher than Melbourne, 14% higher than Brisbane, and 11% higher than Perth. That means rent, utilities, and other expenses are higher for your dentist, which often leads to higher treatment prices.
However, there are also more orthodontists in Sydney and its surrounding areas than any of the other cities on this list. Why does that matter? Because more competition might drive prices down or encourage some doctors to offer sales or other discounts.
Based on the prices quoted by Sydney-based Invisalign providers, most comprehensive treatments typically cost between $6,000 and $9,500 AUD, though prices can range up to $10,000 or higher depending on case complexity. Limited treatment options addressing only minor cosmetic issues may start closer to $4,500 in Sydney.
Melbourne is Australia’s second-largest city—only slightly smaller in population than Sydney. However, it’s a slightly more affordable place to live, more on par with Brisbane and Perth. So, depending on where in the city they’re located, your Invisalign provider might pay less in rent and utilities than they would in Sydney. That might translate to slightly lower prices.
Melbourne has fewer orthodontists than Sydney, but not by much. That means there’s probably still a healthy dose of competition, increasing the likelihood of deals and special offers.
Still, many Melbourne-based Invisalign providers list slightly lower prices than Sydney—typically ranging from $5,500–$8,500 AUD, though the full range can extend to $10,000 or higher for complex cases and limited treatment options may start as low as $4,000 for simple cosmetic adjustments (like mild crowding or spacing). It all depends on your dentist, your misalignment, and the specific Invisalign treatment format recommended.
Brisbane is less than half as populous as Melbourne, but its cost of living is around the same. In fact, rent and utilities can sometimes be a little more expensive, but not a whole lot. That’s why average prices for dental and orthodontic treatment are often pretty similar between the two. Many Brisbane Invisalign providers list prices in the $6,000–$7,500 range, but some might be lower or higher.
As a smaller city than its counterparts to the south, Brisbane has fewer orthodontists to choose from. Although there are still enough that you could easily get multiple quotes on Invisalign, and possibly seek out promotions or deals.
Perth is the geographic outlier in this group—situated on Australia’s far West coast, nearly 4,000 km away from Sydney. It’s also the smallest city on this list, population-wise. Rent prices can be lower here than in east coast cities, but the price of goods like groceries can be higher. Overall, the cost of living is pretty much on par with Melbourne or Brisbane.
Peruse the websites of Perth orthodontists and you'll find a pretty wide range of Invisalign prices. Some say minor treatments can cost as low as $4,000 AUD, while others say complex cases might cost around $10,000. Most treatments fall within the $5,500–$7,500 range.
Perth also has fewer orthodontists than the other cities on this list. That doesn’t necessarily mean prices will always be higher, but it does mean there’s slightly less opportunity to compare prices and seek out sales.
So what are these variables that determine your final Invisalign bill? Here are a few of the most influential.
If you have a severe misalignment and/or a bite issue like overbite or underbite, it usually takes longer to correct. That means more aligners, more office visits, and maybe even supplemental attachments like elastics—and all of those things cost money. On the flip side, mild cases of crowding or spacing often take fewer aligners and less time, so they’re cheaper to correct.
This complexity directly impacts pricing across Australia. Dentists typically offer comprehensive treatment (Invisalign Full) for moderate to complex cases or limited treatment formats (Invisalign Lite/Express) for simple cosmetic adjustments. While the lower-priced options make appealing advertisements, realistically 80-85% of patients require comprehensive treatment. Limited options only work for minimal alignment issues affecting just the front teeth with no bite correction. When comparing advertised Invisalign prices, understanding which treatment format they refer to explains the significant differences.
Invisalign charges dentists and orthodontists for using their services, labs, and products. Because of their brand power and technology, these fees can be high, and dentists might increase their prices to recoup their costs. However, Invisalign has a reward system called Invisalign Advantage that ranks providers in tiers based on how many cases they treat. Providers in higher tiers—like platinum and diamond—may receive discounts on their lab fees, so they might offer lower prices.
Each dentist and orthodontist sets their own prices. After the fees and expenses they pay, they still have to make a profit to stay in business, although some will markup their treatments more than others.
Unfortunately, Medicare rarely covers dental and orthodontic expenses, but private health funds might. If you have a fund that covers part of your Invisalign treatment, it’ll knock your price down a little (or a lot!).
Before you start Invisalign treatment, your dentist will provide a treatment plan that shows how your teeth will move. However, tooth movements can be unpredictable. Even though your dentist will monitor your progress throughout the treatment, certain cases might require additional aligners and office visits to reach the end goal—and that might add to your final price.
Running a business is simply more expensive in certain places. Your dentist has to pay for rent on their office, utilities like power and water, supplies, employees, and other various business expenses. The more your dentist has to pay in monthly bills, the higher their prices will probably be. Typically, it’s more expensive to live and run a business in big cities than in suburbs or rural areas.
No matter where you live, orthodontic treatment is an investment, but there are ways to manage those expenses. Here are a few common methods.
Many dental and orthodontic offices have financing plans that let you break your bill into more reasonable monthly payments. Some of them require down payments and have interest, so you might end up paying more in the long run, but others are interest free. During your consultation, ask your dentist about your payment options.
As we’ve outlined, Invisalign prices can vary significantly between providers. So if you get quotes from a few different places, you can find the one that best fits your budget. Just remember that Invisalign usually requires office visits throughout treatment, so don’t venture farther than you’re willing to drive on a regular basis.
Some health funds will cover orthodontic treatment, including clear aligners, so if you’ve been relying solely on Medicare, purchasing private insurance might save you money. Just know that plans will typically only cover a portion of the total cost, and many have a lifetime limit on how much they’ll pay out. Plus, health funds often require you to wait 12 months before submitting claims for orthodontia.
Invisalign is the most widely recognizable clear aligner brand, but some of their competitors charge dentists less in lab fees and can offer better prices. Linea, for example, has worked with dentists to establish three different flat-rate prices, depending on the severity of your case. It’s just $2,698 for mild cases, $3,698 for moderate ones, and $4,998 for the most complex misalignments.
Those prices are the same whether you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, or anywhere else. So no need to shop around for the best quotes. The best part? You’ll get hands-on care and direct dentist oversight, just like you would with Invisalign.
